MA student, Simon Malépart, wins a Blavatnik Archive fellowship
The Blavatnik Archive has just announced their research fellows for this year and MA student Simon Malépart is one of the five scholars who have been awarded a fellowship.
From the Blavatnik Archive website: His current project is entitled To Fight or not to Fight: A Study of Desertion and Defection by Wehrmacht Soldiers on the Eastern Front, 1941-1945. Using the Blavatnik Archive’s collection of leaflets dropped by Soviet authorities on the front lines, Simon explores how the USSR tried to get German soldiers to cross the frontline and why that eXort failed. His project situates itself within the broader literature on propaganda, collaboration, and resistance within the Nazi war machine. This project will seek to fill the gap in a field which has thus far only considered the act of desertion and defection to rather than from Germany.
Congratulations, Simon!
