The Government of Quebec announced today that Anne-Marie Croteau, dean of Concordia’s John Molson School of Business, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF). Her mandate begins immediately.

“With the number of emerging trends and technologies in the financial market, this is an exciting and engaging opportunity,” says Croteau.

Established in 2004, the AMF is mandated by the Government of Quebec to regulate the province’s financial markets and help consumers with financial products and services.

“As dean of one of the largest business schools in Canada, it’s incredibly enriching to be part of the larger conversation around financial markets and to benefit from a variety of perspectives.”

'Helping women gain access'

Croteau is the first woman dean of the John Molson School of Business. She specializes in strategic management of information technology and her research has been published in high-impact international scientific journals and earned numerous awards.

A certified corporate director, Croteau has been a member of several boards of directors for nearly two decades. She sits on Hydro-Québec’s board of directors and is chair of the Digital Technologies Committee and a member of the Human Resources Committee.

Croteau is vice-chair of the board of directors of Collège André-Grasset and chair of the Governance Committee. She participates in the cabinet of Centraide of Greater Montreal for its fundraising campaign. In addition, she is a godmother for the Junior Chamber of Commerce of Montreal and a mentor for Women in Governance.

Croteau was an independent director on the board of directors of the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec and sat on the boards of directors of Finance Montréal and the Institute on Governance of Private and Public Organizations.

Croteau is the first woman in the history of Université Laval to earn a PhD in administration with a specialization in organizational information systems. She also holds an MSc and a BBA, both specialized in information systems, from HEC Montréal and a BSc in actuarial mathematics from Concordia.

“I hope my appointment inspires young women to get involved and pursue leadership positions in the business community. Helping women gain access to higher ranks and fulfill their dreams and ambitions is something that matters to me and to our school,” Croteau adds.

The John Molson School of Business is the first business school in Canada to be certified by Women in Governance, a not-for-profit organization that supports women in their leadership development, career advancement and access to board seats across Canada.
