Resources and support for students
We know the whole Concordia community, especially those of us with connections to Iran, is very concerned by events unfolding there now. We are particularly concerned with the reports of violent clashes on a university campus and the incidents of violence against women.
Living away from family and friends can be difficult, especially when things outside our control affect us personally. For our students with connections to Iran: if you need someone to talk to, for any reason, we’re here to listen.
Peer Wellness Ambassadors
Starting October 24, you can book time to meet one-on-one with a Concordia student trained in peer support and active listening.
If you're struggling with your mental health, Concordia’s network of care can help you get timely access to mental health support services. You can also get instant access to a doctor online through Medavie Blue Cross.
As a reminder, staff at these key resources on campus can also offer support:
Financial support
If events in Iran have given rise to financial stress for you, consider asking the Student Accounts Office to review your situation. Staff may be able to develop a personalized tuition payment plan, including waiving interest and late payment fees. Email them at studentaccounts@concordia.ca or call 514-848-2424 ext. 4900. You can also make an appointment to meet in person.
For budgeting advice or help dealing with a financial emergency, get in touch with staff at the Financial Aid and Awards Office by emailing fundingyoureducation@concordia.ca.
To find emergency food resources or to request a grocery store gift card through the Student Emergency and Food Fund, please register to speak to a program coordinator. Please keep in mind that SEFF is experiencing a surge in requests. Thank you in advance for your patience in continuing to check back regularly for new appointment availability.
Academic accommodation
If you find circumstances in Iran are affecting your academic performance, consider requesting an academic accommodation, or speak to your undergraduate academic advisor or graduate program assistant. They can help you.
We realize these are very difficult times. Please do not hesitate to access our available resources if you need support.
Bringing Concordia's Iranian community together
The Iranian Student Association of Concordia University is actively raising awareness in Montreal and beyond about events in Iran – and they are looking for ways to bring Iranian students together. You can connect with the ISACU by email at isacu22@gmail.com. They also have a Telegram channel at t.me//ISACU and an active Instagram account.
