A welcome message from the President

September 7, 2023

Dear Concordians,

Welcome to the fall term.

I hope you’re feeling energized and ready to embark on a new academic year after a great summer. To our new students: welcome to the university. We are so glad you’re joining our community.

This year marks a shift to a 12-week term to make room for a fall reading week. I’m anticipating a busy year of Concordians making an impact, like these students did last year:

  • Aerospace engineering student and pilot Simon Colletti, who played a key role in fighting Quebec’s forest fires

  • Studio arts grad student Ryth Kesselring, who is using weaving, electronics and sound to create interactive ecosystems that reflect on political and ecological issues

  • The Space Concordia team, who launched the first space-bound student-built satellite in Quebec

A continued focus on experiential learning

Great numbers of undergrads are undertaking paid internships, field and lab research, international exchanges, and much more, as part of Concordia’s commitment to provide every incoming undergraduate student at least one experiential learning opportunity during their degree. In 2022 alone, more than 4,000 students took part. If you haven’t yet, I hope you’ll explore how you can benefit from these transformative opportunities.

Tailored support

The university aims to offer gathering spaces that allow students “to be their authentic selves,” in the words of the first manager of the new NouLa Centre for Black Students. Other spaces include:

Have a great fall term!
