High has recorded the memories of people such as Luisa Longo, whose family owned the Blue Restaurant that once stood by the water near the Des Seigneurs bridge. She recalls, “There was no railing, no nothing, there wasn’t the security that there is today… and I almost fell in at one point ‘cause I was tiny, the wind was strong and my grandfather saved me.”
In 1996, The “Lachine Canal Manufacturing Complex” was designated by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada as historically significant. Steven High and fellow historians, have collaborated on research aimed at documenting the history of significant sites that bear witness to the transformations of neighborhoods at the center of revolutions in transportation, housing and industry from the late nineteen century through today.
