Marc-Antoine Vézina knows how powerful it can be to hold both the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Master of Business (MBA) designations. “Each demonstrates a separate set of skills that hold different advantages for employers,” he says.

“The CFA confirms that you are a financial expert,” says Vézina. “Whereas the MBA shows that you have business development and strategic skills, that you can manage projects and that you can pitch.”

Vézina was hired by TD Securities even before completing the MBA with Complete CFA Integration program at the John Molson School of Business (JMSB). He has since moved on to an associate position at BMO Capital Markets. “None of this would have been possible were it not for the program at JMSB.”

You can learn more about the program at an information session on April 19, from noon to 1 p.m., in the John Molson Building.

Offered in Toronto and Montreal through Concordia's Goodman Institute of Investment Management, the program's combined curriculum prepares students to write all three levels of the CFA exams while completing an MBA.

“Most of my colleagues are five or six years older than me,” Vézina explains. “That’s because the curriculum is structured so that you can work full-time and get experience while in the program. It allows you to get both designations much earlier.”

This year, the Goodman Institute of Investment Management MBA Bursary was established. It will be awarded annually, to a student in the program in financial need who excels academically.

A bursary recipient himself, Vézina says the new award is significant on a number of fronts.

“First, many students need the financial support,” he says. “But it’s also so important to recognize your top achieving students. Now that I’m on the other side, I see how big a differentiator that can be in an employer’s eyes.”

“When I was a student, there was always healthy competition with my classmates to try and win the academic awards. It pushes you to try harder.”

Learn about the MBA with Complete CFA Integration program by attending an information session on April 19 from noon to 1 p.m. in Room MB-10.250, John Molson Building (1450 Guy St.), Sir George Williams Campus.
