Concordia’s Francofête is an all-out celebration of the French language

Concordia’s Réussir en français and the Centre des étudiants francophones have teamed up to present the 2025 Francofête from March 10 to 21, plus a job fair on March 27. This year’s event series offers a dynamic lineup of activities designed to celebrate the vibrant world of French for the entire university community. From language challenges to cultural experiences, there’s something for everyone to enjoy and discover at this celebration of the French language.
“Our activities create a space where we can all connect, appreciate the French language and learn from each other,” says Maria Trigueiro, manager of Réussir en français.
“It’s an open invitation to share, explore and experience French in a welcoming and engaging atmosphere.”
FRANCOncordia Activities
Throughout March
The Centre des étudiants francophones (CÉF) is embracing Francophonie Month this March, with a rich program full of discoveries and exchanges.
On March 18, the CÉF will host a community meal for current students, a Cabane à sucre in collaboration with the Multi-Faith and Spirituality Centre, accompanied by a quiz on this Quebecois tradition.
Throughout the month, their Café-Jasette events, which happen weekly at the CÉF office, will be dedicated to Francophone culture. These events will offer a space for discussion and sharing about the diversity and richness of the Francophone world.
LexiCréatif: The New Word Challenge
From March 10 to 21
In celebration of the earlier launch of LexiConcordia, students, faculty and staff are invited to submit newly coined words that have not yet been translated into French at LexiCréatif. Neology, the process of creating new words or expressions to meet evolving linguistic needs, plays a key role in enriching the French language by submitting translations. Whether it’s a term that fills a gap in their discipline or a fresh twist on existing vocabulary, a participant’s submission could make its mark in the French lexicon!
Francophi-Lis
March 19
For those looking to improve their French skills, Francophi-Lis offers an exciting opportunity to engage with the language through a friendly competition. This reading contest, organized in collaboration with UQAM and the Université de Montréal, is open to individuals at a beginner or intermediate level of French. Sign up here, on the Francophi-Lis event page.
Foire des regions
March 27
On March 27, Concordia will host the Foire des régions. Organized in collaboration with PROMIS (Emplois en régions) and the Provincial Employment Roundtable, this event is tailored for international engineering students and alumni looking to explore career and settlement opportunities in Quebec’s administrative regions beyond the Montreal Metropolitan Community.
Délie ta langue Grand Finale
March 30
We’re excited to announce that Eva Gonzalez, a political science and sociology student, will represent Concordia at the Délie ta langue Grand Finale competition, where participants unpack the meaning of a French expression and connect it to a relevant social issue.
Stay tuned for more details and be sure to support Eva Gonzalez as they take the stage to showcase the power of language in shaping discussions and understanding!
As Francofête unfolds, Concordia invites everyone — regardless of their level of French proficiency — to participate, explore and celebrate the French language. This annual celebration serves as a reminder of the vibrancy and diversity of the francophone world within the university’s walls and beyond.
