1. A WINDOW INTO THE PAST

Pointe-à-Callière public market | Pointe-à-Callière, Montreal Museum of Archaeology and History | Saturday, August 27 and Sunday, August 28, beginning at 10 am

Enjoy an array of historical activities and presentations in an authentic, 1750s atmosphere. Sample wild fruit jams and jellies, maple products, cheeses, sausages, cider and even spruce beer — all while taking in offerings from storytellers, musicians and artisans. More than 100 costumed individuals contribute to this extravaganza, where children are encouraged to dress up, discover games from the era and take part in a parade.

2. ART + ECONOMICS

SIGHTINGS 17: The Time of the Work | Henry F. Hall Building, Concordia University | All day until September 5

Interested in acquiring a work of art? You’ll need to put the time in. The Time of the Work is a project by artist and Concordia alum Nicolas Grenier (BFA, 04), presented by the Leonard and Bina Ellen Art Gallery.

Participants have committed to spending a certain period of time inside the SIGHTINGS cube with an artwork they wish to acquire. The duration is equal to that which the artist invested in the production of the work.

The exhibition space becomes the site for a different kind of economy that uses the “time of work” as a unit for exchange.

3. CREATIVE AGEING

Age 3.0: The Creative Ageing Fair  | Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated Complex (EV), Concordia University | August 25, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

How do older adults engage creatively with the world? This is one of many questions that will be addressed during a one-day interdisciplinary event coming up at Concordia focused on ageing studies.

Age 3.0: The Creative Ageing Fair will feature panel discussions, community art interventions created by seniors organizations and kiosks hosted by companies and research groups working to bring ageing to the forefront of public, commercial and academic discourses.

Come and contribute to discussions about how we can define the multiple intersections between innovation, the creative economy, emerging technologies and ageing.
