The holiday shopping season has begun, and the Concordia University Library is once again offering a great way to buy gifts for loved ones while helping those in need — the 27th Christmas Auction.

On Thursday, December 8 from 12 to 2 p.m. in the J.A. DeSève Cinema, bid on crafts, antiques, jewellery, objets d'art and holiday-themed items.

And this year, the Montreal Canadiens have donated a hockey stick signed by the 2015-16 team!

“The auction is a fun event that brings the Concordia community together for a great cause,” says Faye Corbin, chair of the organizing committee.

“The fact that we can help others in our community by attending an auction and spending as little as two dollars is something special. Our volunteers and sponsors are wonderful people who care.”

Proceeds from the event will support various community organizations including Auberge Madeleine, Can Serve Foundation, Chez Doris, CODE (Canadian Organization for Development through Education), Dans la Rue, the Montreal Gazette Christmas Fund, Operation Eyesight Universal, Oxfam, Sun Youth and the Women's Centre of Montréal.

Here at Concordia, the sales also contribute to the Centre for the Arts in Human Development, the Multi-faith and Spiritual Centre’s Student Emergency and Food Fund and Financial Aid and Awards.

Lunch will be available onsite for $10 and includes a selection of salads, main dishes, desserts and beverages. All food waste and packaging will be composted or recycled.
