Coming soon: Concordia’s state-of-the-art conference centre (with a view)
Construction of the new University Conference Centre and consolidated graduate workspaces on the ninth floor of Concordia’s John Molson Building (MB) begins this week.
The workspaces will feature 81 seats, an interview room, a kitchenette and a collaborative lounge.
“We’re tremendously excited to have an area specifically for the use of our PhD students,” says Stéphane Brutus, interim dean of the John Molson School of Business (JMSB).
“These new facilities will provide students with an engaging environment to inspire them in their efforts to continuously push the boundaries of business research.”
The MB-9 University Conference Centre will provide multi-functional, state-of-the-art facilities to the entire Concordia community. Under the direction of Hospitality Concordia, the new centre will feature seven meeting rooms as well as a lobby, lounge and catering kitchen.
“We look forward to providing our clients with a beautiful space that will better serve their needs,” says Marie-Josée Allard, director of Hospitality.
The new facilities will also feature great views of the city and the ability to host banquets.
Maximized potential, minimized disruption
The nine-month project will free up room on the seventh floor of the Henry F. Hall Building (H-7), the site of the current conference centre.
“These movements are allowing us to maximize the development potential of our existing sites,” explains Kirsten Sutherland, interim director of project management with Facilities Management.
In line with university objectives to provide cutting-edge resources and facilities to support undergraduate and graduate activities, a consolidated Concordia Student Success Centre will move to H-7. Construction will begin later this year.
To minimize the impact of the MB-9 renovations, the majority of disruptive work will be conducted in the early hours of the morning, prior to classes. Despite these measures, MB occupants can expect some minor impacts including increased dust, noise and elevator delays.
