1. Talk to a human book

The Human Library Project | Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec | Every Thursday in February and March from noon to 3 p.m.

Delve into a living archive of life stories. In the Human Library, people from different cultural communities act as books, available “on loan” to readers for 20 minutes to share details of their lives. The goal is to create openness, diminish stereotypes and celebrate diversity.

Find out more about the Human Library Project, and the Human Library at the BAnQ.

2. Suit up for winter fun

Verdun Winter Carnival | Parc Arthur-Therrien | February 10 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., February 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and February 12 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Make the most of the cold at the Verdun Winter Carnival. For three days you can take advantage of a slew of free winter activities, including tubing and skating. Don’t forget to show up on Friday in your funkiest snowsuit for a costume-themed dance party, complete with a DJ and electronic beats.

3. A frozen race like no other

Ice Canoe Challenge | 375th Hivernales | Pier Alexandra and Quai de L’Horloge | February 11 and 12, starting at noon

Head down to the Old Port to take in some extreme sports at the Ice Canoe Challenge. That’s right, ice canoeing is a thing! For two days, top-level athletes will race their canoes across 10 metres of frozen river.

Check out the Ice Canoe Challenge racing schedule.

4. Have a mammoth amount of fun

Village Mammouth | Olympic Stadium | Every day throughout February

There’s no need to hibernate this February. Instead, enjoy a breath of fresh air at Village Mammouth. Located at the foot of the Olympic Stadium, the site offers winter activities for the whole family. Take a spin around the giant outdoor skating rink or shop in the District Nord, a winter market with products made by local artisans.

Check out the Village Mammouth program.

5. Curl with style

Curling en lumière | 375th Hivernales | Quartier des Spectacles | Feb. 23 to March 11

Curling en lumières takes the game of curling out of the arena and into the streets of Montreal. Try your hand at tossing some rocks, or watch others play while you take in the dazzling backdrop of the light and sound display — either way this is an unconventional way to enjoy one of Canada’s most-loved sports.
