1. Comic creations

Manga workshop | Blue Metropolis | Bibliothèque Georges-Vanier | April 30 at 3 p.m.

Are you hooked on manga? Want to learn how to create your own comics inspired by this Japanese style first developed in the late 19th century? Follow in the footsteps of such greats as Naoko Takeuchi (Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon), Osamu Tezuka (Astro Boy) or Hayao Miyazaki (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind). Learn from two local heroes of the genre, Stéphanie Philibert et Josiane Sansregret, who co-founded the Quebec fanzine project Mangue A.

This event takes place in French.

2.  Circus acts on the edge

Sans Filet | TOHU | La Cité des Arts du Cirque | May 1 at 7 p.m.

See the raw talent of Quebec’s premier circus artists as they test out their numbers before taking them on the road. This is a rare moment to witness the final stages of an act’s development before its emergence into the public eye! An artistic mediator serves as the link between these performers and you.

3. In their own words (and language)

Babel Bleu Readings | Blue Metropolis | Hôtel 10 |  April 29 at noon, April 30 at 3 p.m.

If you’re a literary fan and you’ve always wondered what it would be like to hear some of your favourite works read by the authors in their own languages … now’s your chance! Hear from the likes of George Elliott Clarke, Pierre Nepveu, Gillian Sze, Anita Desai, Xue Yiwei, Marcello Fois and Booker Prize nominee Josip Novakovich, professor of English in Concordia’s Faculty of Arts and Science.

4.  Dancing in the streets

15 X La Nuit | Agora de la danse | Place des Festivals | April 28 to May 6 at 9 p.m.

Witness dance driven by the noise and lights of the surrounding city. Catch performer Naishi Wang as he completes the last of 15 consecutive nighttime performances.

This solo choreography by Paul-André Fortier comes to Place des Festivals via Tokyo, Japan and Poitiers, France. Rain or shine, Wang is out there giving it his all for art’s sake, catching passersby in the present moment. Be one of the lucky few to see this astounding vision!

5. A creative invitation

Les signes | Art exhibition | L’Éspace contemporain de Montréal | Until April 30

In this exhibition, Quebec artist Richard ROY presents a collection of his works inspired by nature. Employing mixed media on paper, ROY creates works that invite viewers to apprehend or to recognize, to guess or to perceive what is observed or what is felt.

Each piece is created around a detail, a gesture, an imprint or an inner perception. Reflect on the meaning of the traces he leaves behind and try to understand the imprint of his creative process. Everything is broken, intertwined, rubbed together in a plurality of spaces and moments.
