Certified: Concordia's business tech management grads

The pace of technological progress is faster than ever, and it’s accelerating. Businesses need managers who understand IT and can keep up with the speed of this innovation.
That’s what the Business Technology Management (BTM) major at the John Molson School of Business (JMSB) is all about. BTM students graduate with a thorough understanding of IT as well as business skills, like the ability to manage projects and analyze a business process.
And now, the program’s new accreditation by the Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC) will help ensure that graduates have the latest IT-related knowledge, positioning them to take on top business management roles.
ITAC’s Business Technology Management accreditation was established to assure that programs meet national standards, and produce graduates ready to enter BTM-related fields that are leading the way in innovation, competitiveness and emerging technologies.

Students who complete Concordia’s BTM major will now be certified BTM associates and on track to becoming certified BTM professionals in fields such as business information systems analysis, information systems support management, project management and e-business development.
Raul Valverde, a senior lecturer at JMSB and director of the BTM program, says that accreditation will make graduates more attractive to employers.
“There’s quality assurance when you graduate with BTM certification,” he says.
“Companies want to hire graduates who are as confident in their business skills as their IT knowledge, and the certification assures that. The demand for these types of professionals is high and it is growing.”
