As in the past, Concordia will host voting sites for both advanced and day-of polling for the Canadian federal elections this September. The Sir George Williams and Loyola campuses will remain open to all instructional activities during this time.

Monday, September 20, is a regular workday, and employees are expected to work according to their regular schedule unless it does not allow for three consecutive hours for voting purposes. Those without three consecutive hours off before or after their workday should reach out to their manager for accommodations. Election-day polls will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

September 20 is election day

For those who live in the electoral district of Ville-Marie—Le Sud-Ouest—Île-des-Sœurs, election polling stations will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on September 20 in the atrium of the J.W. McConnell (LB) Building and the lobby of the Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated Complex (EV Building). A polling station will also be open at the Loyola Chapel for those who live in the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce—Westmount electoral district.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Elections Canada directives state that only those who live in the local electoral ridings will be able to vote on campus. Information on alternative voting options available to all Canadian citizens of voting age can be found on the Elections Canada website.

Advanced polls

Advanced polling stations will be set up at Concordia on September 10, 11, 12 and 13 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the following locations:

  • EV Building, 1515 Ste. Catherine St. W., for those who live in the electoral district of Ville-Marie—Le Sud-Ouest—Île-des-Sœurs
  • Loyola Chapel (FC Building), 7141 Sherbrooke St. W., for those who live in the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce—Westmount electoral district

Students, faculty and staff who do not live in these ridings cannot vote on campus at advanced polls this year due to COVID-19 restrictions outlined by Elections Canada.

Out-of-town and out-of-province voting

Those from out of town or out of province are able to vote at any Elections Canada office before Tuesday, September 14, at 6 p.m. Information on alternative voting options are also available on the Elections Canada website.

COVID-19 safety

The health and safety of the entire Concordia community remain the university’s top priority.

All those entering university buildings will be required to wear a mask. Hand sanitization stations will be set up at all entrances, exits and polling stations and a security team will be present to enforce COVID-19 regulations, manage traffic flow and ensure voting areas are respected.

In addition to Concordia’s COVID-19 restrictions and the Government of Quebec’s directives, Elections Canada will also be following its own safety regulations. For more information about the Elections Canada health and safety measures, check out the COVID-19 FAQs.
