Dear Concordians,
I hope you’ve had a great summer and are as excited about the new academic year as I am. Our two campuses are once again buzzing with life as we enjoy a return to relative normalcy.
Student Successes
This year is sure to be as full of discovery and success as last year, when Concordia students:
- Became a Rhodes Scholar, a Clarendon Scholar, a Forces Avenir Personality of the Year, and Concordia’s first ever McCall MacBain Scholar and Schwarzman Scholar
- Won three Olympic and Paralympic medals in Beijing
- Won two medals at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom
- Won the Quebec and Canadian women’s ice hockey championship
- Won a third consecutive Quebec men’s rugby championship
- Engaged with the public as Public Scholars
Concordia’s Great Reputation
- For the third straight year QS ranked Concordia as the top university less than 50 years old in North America, while Times Higher Education ranked us top in Canada for the fifth straight year.
- We’re continuing to advance our Sustainability Action Plan and our social justice initiatives to decolonize our university and combat anti-Black racism. Such commitments saw us maintain our place among the world’s top 100 universities in the 2022 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings — placing fifth in the world in the Sustainable Cities and Communities category, 20th for Climate Action and 48th for our work toward Reduced Inequalities.
Meet New People
I hope to see you at one of our informal back-to-school get-togethers:
- Sir George Williams Campus: Wednesday, September 14, 9-11 a.m., EV Atrium
- Loyola Campus: Thursday, September 15, 2-4 p.m., Loyola Grove (rain backup: SP Atrium)
Have a great fall term!
Graham Carr
President and Vice-Chancellor
