Giving Tuesday 2024 raises $446,000 for students
The 2024 edition of Giving Tuesday highlighted the Concordia Stingers athletic programs and the Student Emergency and Food Fund.
Concordia’s 2024 Giving Tuesday campaign raised $446,000.
Approximately 900 faculty, staff, alumni and friends donated to the campaign, which supported student well-being and success.
Launched on November 19, the campaign focused on two key areas: the Concordia Stingers athletic programs and the Student Emergency and Food Fund.
Donors were encouraged to champion other causes, resulting in gifts to more than 85 initiatives, including Concordia’s Greatest Needs, the Library, the university’s two faculties and three schools.
Giving Tuesday is a global day of generosity that encourages people to invest in their communities. This year, it took place on December 3, following American Thanksgiving.
Fuelling athletic excellence
The Concordia Stingers received nearly $314,000 in donations, empowering student athletes to excel on the field and in the classroom.
Men’s hockey raised almost $87,000, bolstered by a $50,000 gift from an anonymous donor, while the football team secured $84,000.
Bob Beriault, BComm 73, former player and alumnus of Loyola College — one of Concordia’s founding institutions — inspired alumni gifts by pledging to match all donations to the football program or up to $35,000.
These gifts will increase access to athletic awards, training opportunities and the chance to compete nationally and internationally.
Supporting students in need
Upwards of 180 donors gave to the Student Emergency and Food Fund, which serves as a lifeline for students facing financial hardships. The service provides grocery vouchers, emergency bursaries and other essential resources to uplift students navigating unexpected challenges.
With an increased cost of living placing added pressure on many students, the fund helps ensure they can focus on their education without the burden of food insecurity.
A community united in giving
Once again, Concordians demonstrated that any amount — large or small — can lead to meaningful change.
