Martin Rouleau, BComm 94 “It's very easy in our job to put ethics to the side and just think of your own profit. I will always protect the interests of my clients or my vendors, and I will let the market give them the best price.”

As an agent for the international luxury real estate company Engel & Völkers, Martin Rouleau is passionate about helping his clients buy and sell some of the most beautiful properties in the Montreal area.

Being a successful agent means having financial knowledge and legal acumen to create contracts, as well as having the interpersonal skills needed to negotiate deals to everyone’s satisfaction.

For Rouleau, many of these skills were developed at Concordia through the people he met in a learning environment that gave him international exposure while still being strongly rooted in the Montreal community.

How Concordia shaped him

“I came to university from private school, which was kind of a protected environment. At Concordia I made contacts from different backgrounds and ethnicities. Today I work in real estate for an international banner that's based in Hamburg, Germany, and I have clients from all over the world.

“I think it’s important to be exposed to different cultures when you're younger because it gives you great tools for working with people. Especially in this business; the planet is one market.”

Proudest career moment

“In September 2018, I was honoured at Engel & Völkers’s award ceremony in Germany as one of the Top 10 worldwide brokers in the residential category. I was competing with top brokers in San Francisco, Madrid and Paris. That's an achievement I'm pretty proud of.”

What people say about him

“I always put my work ethics first. It's very easy in our job to put ethics to the side and just think of your own profit. I have a reputation for being a very ethical broker and I'm not the type who will hold a property just for my own buyers. I will always protect the interests of my clients or my vendors, and I will let the market give them the best price.”
