Staff and faculty
On Monday, April 28, 2025, polls will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Under the Canada Elections Act employees who are eligible to vote are entitled to three (3) consecutive non-working hours on Election Day to permit them to vote. Only if an employee's work schedule does not allow three (3) consecutive non-working hours during the polling station open hours, then the employee should make an arrangement with their supervisor.
For example:
- If your regular work hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., you have three consecutive hours after work to vote, so no additional time off will be provided.
- If your work hours are from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., your manager could arrange for you to arrive late (at 12:30 p.m.) or leave early (at 6:30 p.m.). Please speak directly with your department chair or supervisor to make arrangements.
Please note that time taken to vote, if normally considered paid time, will still be paid.
On Election Day, employees who are eligible to vote who report to you are allowed three consecutive non-working hours to vote. If work schedules do not allow your staff members this time to vote, you must grant them additional time. Polls are open from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Monday, April 28. Please work with staff to provide the time necessary while meeting operational requirements.
Department chairs and managers, please contact Concordia Human Resources at hr-reception@concordia.ca for more information about time off for elections.
