- Wednesdays, 11:45am - 2:15 pm
- EV 1.605
- Instructor: Dr. Farrukh Rafiq
In this course, we will consider the practical implications of a wide range of popular art critical theory. We will look at examples from a broad range art historical chronology and geography to assess the current and universal relevance of art criticism. Students will consider the influences of biographical readings, psychoanalysis, feminism, social history, and post-colonial theory in conjunction with case studies and will be encouraged to rely on examples from their own studies and experiences. We will also take a close look at the Shary Boyle show Outside the Palace of Me at the MMFA. Students at the end of the course will not only be familiar with a broad range of art critical theory and practice, but will be able to confidently apply the learned material to a broad range of visual subject matter.
