ARTH 356 Studies in the Materials and Processes of Art: Design.HER: DIY in Interiors
- Mondays, 2:45-5:30 pm
- Instructor: Vanessa Sicotte
This course delves into the interdisciplinary realm of interiors by examining the materials and processes employed in 20th-century design and residential architecture, with a strong focus on the work of women and those who identify as women designers and creators. How are such interiors related to the art historical concepts of the readymade and the found object? How might we understand contemporary DIY culture in relation to these important spaces? By engaging in the creative analysis of an interior that is important to them, students will learn first-hand how to analyze interior design in light of aesthetic, historical, and gender concerns.
