The Creative Arts Therapies Residency
Art Volt is happy to announce the second edition of our Creative Arts Therapies residency program, designed specifically to help support recent alumni of this department by providing them opportunities within Montreal based organizations.
Program overview
The Creative Arts Therapies Residency is a program which aims to help three emerging practitioners develop online or onsite services, grow their professional network and gain valuable experiences. One recent alumni from each of the Creatives Arts Therapies programs (Art, Drama and Music) will be selected and paired with a Montreal-based organization.
Each selected candidate will receive an honorarium of $1350 for a 2 hour weekly presence at the site (online or onsite depending on the situation), to develop and deliver a weekly group therapy session for 13 weeks from September to December 2022. The alumni will be working closely with the organizations to develop the one-hour group, the 2nd hour will consist of preparation, documentation and guiding a Concordia Graduate student in internship.
The Pointe-Saint-Charles Art School is a community-driven non-profit Fine Art School and a charitable organization offering affordable and/or free visual arts classes and an art therapy service for people of all ages, walks of life and levels of expertise. They work with people of all ages, and offer group and individual sessions.
Art therapy clients will mostly be referred from local organizations such as Saint-Columba House, Share the Warmth, Action-Gardien, and the Community Clinic. With the occasional self-referral. An intake protocol is in place for referral slips, consent forms, etc.

Through its engagement in the community of Point Saint Charles, Saint Columba House works for personal and collective empowerment through education, creating opportunities for participation, group sharing and support. Saint Columba House also engages in the work of social change to address social and economic injustice through actions, reflection and analysis, community organizing and advocacy.
They builds community by providing a safe place, a spirit of hospitality, inclusion, acceptance, respect, and networks to meet urgent needs; and by working collegially in all programs and activities, as staff, board, and volunteers. Furthermore, Saint Columba seeks hope, meaning in our lives, and the presence of God through sharing and engagement.
Finally, Saint Columba collaborates in partnerships with those who share their vision for justice – in the church, in our community, in other community organizations, and beyond, to share the work and be a collective voice.

Founded by the Catholic Church and support from Montreal’s English-speaking community, the core mission of the Saint Margaret Residential Centre is to care for aging members of the community who are no longer able to function independently and whose safety and well-being are entrusted to us by their families.
Our focus is on providing care in a welcoming, secure and homelike environment tailored to individual needs. Our fundamental commitment to wellbeing and safety—shared by all staff and volunteers, as well as by each resident’s family—underlies all our policies and practices, as well as the design of our physical environment. We engage families as partners in care so that, even when they live at a distance, they feel welcome and included in life at the Centre.
