CTC x Art Volt Residency

Art Volt and Concordia’s Core Technical Centre (CTC) have formed a partnership to support recent alumni of the Faculty of Fine Arts through a month-long production residency opportunity. This opportunity is in parallel with a partnership between the CTC and the Undergraduate Sculpture Department, offering the same production residency for current Sculpture Major Undergraduate students.

The Core Technical Centre houses facilities and technical expertise for woodworking, metal work, digital fabrication and much more. The brand-new facilities located in the EV Building have just re-opened in January 2023 and are typically reserved to Faculty of Fine Arts students and faculty working on curriculum or research projects.

If you have any questions about the application process or need specific accommodations to help you succeed in applying, please get in touch with artvolt@concordia.ca.

Program overview

Exceptionally, the CTC Shops, in collaboration with Art Volt, is accepting submissions from recent alumni interested in working in the wood shop, metal shop and/or digital fabrication shop for one month this summer. Applicants will have access to all three shops, however one primary shop must be identified and used.

The residency is scheduled to take place from June 5th to June 30th 2023 and up to three alumni will be selected. Selected residents will be part of a cohort of 6 participants: 3 alumni and 3 undergraduate students. Residents will be required to attend 1 cohort meeting per week in which they will be invited to exchange, share and support one another in their creation process. The residency will culminate in a group show in the newly renovated Sculpture Installation/Critique space in the VA building in September.

Applicants should demonstrate some level of familiarity with the equipment they are intending to work with. This being said, residents will have access to technical support and some training with the Core Technical Centre staff.

Selected residents will receive an honorarium of $500 for their participation in the program.
