Position description

The Department of Building, Civil, and Environmental Engineering at Concordia University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Geotechnical Engineering with specialized knowledge and expertise in one or more of the following areas: energy geotechnics (including heating and cooling technologies), testing of soils and rocks, rock mechanics, soil dynamics, novel methods in geomechanics, physical modelling in geotechnics, unsaturated soil, deep foundation design for natural disasters, soil-structure-interaction, soil-fluid-interaction, slope stability, scour and erosion, sustainability in foundation engineering, and underground infrastructures for sustainable urban development. Duties include research, teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and service to the institution. This is a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor, but exceptional applicants at the associate professor level may be considered.

Qualifications and assets

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field or be near completion at the start date of the appointment. Membership or eligibility for membership in a Canadian professional engineering association, preferable in the province of Quebec, is required.

The main criteria for selection are scholarly and teaching excellence. The successful candidate will provide evidence of high-quality scholarly output that demonstrates potential for independent research leading to peer assessed publications and the securing of external research funding, as well as strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Industrial experience will be an asset.

The Department of Building, Civil and Environmental Engineering has a faculty complement of over 40 professors active in the various areas of building, civil and environmental engineering and its strength has rapidly been growing in recent years. The department offers PhD, masters and bachelor degrees in Building Engineering, Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering. The Civil Engineering undergraduate program has been among top civil engineering programs in the world.
