SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship/ Canada Graduate Scholarship Doctoral

Overview

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Doctoral Fellowships support high-calibre students engaged in doctoral programs in the social sciences and humanities. This support allows scholars to fully focus on their doctoral studies, to seek out the best research mentors in their chosen fields, and to contribute to the Canadian research ecosystem during and beyond the tenure of their awards. SSHRC welcomes applications involving Indigenous research, as well as those involving research-creation.

Applications to the SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship will automatically be considered for the Canada Graduate Scholarships – Doctoral (CGS D) award.

SSHRC DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP

Eligibility

You must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada or a Protected Person.
You must have completed no more than 48 months of full-time study in your doctoral program by December 31 of the calendar year of application.
You should not have already received a doctoral-level scholarship or fellowship from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) or the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

Value

$40,000 per year, for up to three years (award value increased as of Fall 2024).

Application

* Concordia has an internal application deadline. Students registered in a Canadian university – including Concordia – during the calendar year (Jan 1 to Dec 31) of the application must apply by the internal deadline.

To apply to the SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship program, you must complete and submit an electronic application using the SSHRC Online System and identify Concordia University as your ‘Organization to award the degree’. Concordia's internal committee pre-selects applications to be forwarded to the national competition.

Disbursement process

The Tri-Agency Award Holder’s Guide requires that you remain registered and in good academic standing in your graduate program. Once Concordia University confirms this, recipients of Tri-Agency scholarships and awards will have their payments deposited to their student account five working days after DNE deadline each term.
