Public scholar: Rana Ali Adeeb

What is the impact of emotion on the perception of fake news on social media platforms?

My inspiration

Rana Ali Adeeb is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Supply Chain and Business Technology Management. Her research explores the role of emotion in shaping social media users’ perceptions of fake news. She is particularly interested in gaining a better understanding of the processes through which users believe and share fake news on social media. Through her research, Rana aspires to gain a better understanding of the mechanisms by which fake news become entrenched and the strategies to mitigate its spread and impact.

Her research is funded by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture. Rana holds a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Immunology and a Master of Science in Neuroscience from McGill University.

She is a co-founder of a not-for-profit organization, Le centre culturel syrien, which has raised funds to assist those internally displaced by the Syrian war and established bursaries for newcomers to Montreal.
