Graduate Management Admissions Test

To help us assess your readiness for graduate business studies, we require a satisfactory score on the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT), a comprehensive 3.5-hour exam that tests candidates on a variety of skills, such as integrated reasoning, critical thinking, analysis and problem-solving.

The GMAT is administered as a Computer-Adaptive Test (CAT) through the Pearson Professional Centre network throughout North America and at many international test centers. Please visit the GMAT website for more information, including the dates and locations for upcoming exams.

The online live-proctored GMAT exam available at mba.com is also accepted.

The grading system is on a scale from 205 to 805 and is divided up into three parts:

  • Quantitative Reasoning
  • Verbal Reasoning
  • Data Insights

A valid result has been written within the past 5 years, after which time you are no longer able to have an official test result sent to us.

Please consult the details below for information specific to John Molson School of Business.

Graduate Records Examination (GRE)

Although the GMAT is highly preferred,  MBA in Investment Management also accepts the GRE General Test.

As mentioned above, John Molson’s research-based graduate programs do not require the GMAT or GRE, but you may still submit a GRE result.

The GRE General Test is administered by ETS and, similar to the GMAT, measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking and analytical writing skills. The GRE is graded on a scale from 130 to 170.

Since we use the GMAT score as a standard and that GRE tests use a different grading scale, it is best to you percentiles in order to compare results from both tests. Please consult this useful webpage covering What is a good GRE score?

The ETS GRE code for Concordia University is 0956.

We do not accept GMAT or GRE test results written over 5 years ago.

Suggested GMAT exam preparation materials

We recommend that applicants allow, on average, 6 to 12 weeks to adequately prepare for the GMAT exam. If you are not satisfied with your test result, you may retake the exam to improve your score, however, you must wait a minimum of 16 days before re-taking the test.

Resources for the GMAT exam vary in format, length and cost, as well as vary in benefit according to the type of learner. Recommended sources of GMAT preparation/study prep include:

  • GMAT Official Guide (yearly editions; books available at most major bookstores and online)
  • GMAT Official Practice Questions
  • Various Test Prep companies worldwide offer GMAT prep courses and support (check for exam prep companies near you), Our GMAT prep partner is Admit Master.
  • Online GMAT tutoring services & practice exams
  • Prep guidebooks by The Princeton Review, Manhattan Prep and Kaplan — among many other resources available in a variety of formats to GMAT test-takers.
