Concordia marks 10th consecutive year as a Montreal Top Employer

‘This milestone is a tribute to our incredible community’

For the tenth year in a row, Concordia has been recognized as one of Montreal’s Top Employers. Awarded by Mediacorp Canada, the honour is part of a national initiative celebrating organizations that set the standard for exceptional work environments in their industry.

“This milestone is a tribute to our incredible community — every faculty and staff member who contributes daily to making Concordia a remarkable workplace,” says Carolina Willsher, associate vice-president of human resources.

“Despite past and unforeseen challenges, I appreciate our continued commitment to making Concordia a place where employees feel valued, supported and empowered. I’m incredibly proud of who we are,” Willsher adds.

A focus on employee development and well-being

Anna Michetti, executive director of employment and organizational effectiveness, emphasizes that Concordia remains competitive.

“I believe it’s a valuable and enriching experience for employees to continue to learn and grow professionally throughout their career at the university,” says Michetti.

“Our various courses, orientations, and training and development programs are there to support faculty and staff so they can improve their skills, adapt to changing environments and broaden their career paths,” she adds.

The comprehensive approach to employee well-being includes providing resources that enhance work-life balance and encourage healthy lifestyles, as well as creating an environment where employees can thrive both professionally and personally.

Michelle Dodds, manager of campus recreation, highlights the benefits of the flexible and affordable fitness options on both campuses.

“Exercise is an essential part of maintaining overall well-being. Having access to a gym and a variety of classes right on campus helps employees stay active, reduce stress and feel energized throughout their workday,” Dodds says.

Making the cut

Concordia was selected as Top Employer again this year for several key reasons:

  • Professional development: Employees can access tuition subsidies for courses directly or indirectly related to their roles, university-sponsored professional development funds, plus in-house programs like apprenticeships and professional accreditation support.
  • Fitness and wellness: Options include subsidized gym memberships, personal training, nutrition consultations and instructor-led classes such as Zumba or Pilates. In addition, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers a variety of workshops and resources.
  • Family-friendly benefits: Parental leave top-up for new parents, subsidized on-campus childcare, and phased return-to-work options all result in a family-friendly atmosphere.

Willsher notes that while ten years of recognition is a significant achievement, she hopes to continue fostering a positive environment for employees.

“As we continue to listen to our community, adapt and make thoughtful decisions, I hope Concordia remains a fulfilling workplace for all.”
