REIMAGINING HOW
WE AGE
Concordia researchers are working with older people and their communities to address challenges and facilitate opportunities in all realms of life: social, physical, cognitive, emotional and political.
From connecting across fields to exploring aging and
COVID-19, experts are collaborating to decode the
impacts of growing old.
Rethinking age related research
Concordia’s Centre for Research on Aging (engAGE) brings together researchers from a wide range of disciplines — from fine art to physics — to discover creative ways to study aging.
Its projects involve older people, community groups, health care practitioners and industry partners working to enhance our health and well-being throughout our lives. Together, the centre's members uncover the strengths and challenges that we experience in relation to age — and suggest strategies for change.
Decoding the societal impacts of COVID-19 on older adults
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about unprecedented changes to the fabric of our society. These shifts range from addressing the growing need for online activities for the aging population to assisting older people with access to basic goods and services. Our experts are working to better understand the dynamics of getting older in trying times, and dampen the impact our current societal adjustments are having on older people.
Keeping community in context
We're emphasizing research that seeks to explain the importance of communities and their role in shaping policies and practices that impact aging populations.
Our initiatives strive to create a bidirectional and intergenerational experience for participants — whether it's engaging older citizens through art classes, computer lessons, or advocating with them for more age-friendly cities.
Training the next generation to help our oldest
The university is training the next cohort of academic researchers, health practitioners and industry experts under the banner of ‘community-engaged scholarship’. It emphasizes agency, social participation and inclusion of older adults in the aging process.
By equipping tomorrow's leaders with the skills needed to tackle the challenges of an aging population, we're helping to build a society where citizens of all ages are able to live healthy and dignified lives.
Concordia is working hard to address the needs and complexities faced by older adults in our society.
