Call for French research proposals in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Mexico, Ukraine and U.S.

Concordia senior undergraduate, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows can apply to conduct short-term co-supervised research projects at eligible AUF institutions with a Mitacs Globalink Research Award, in partnership with Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF).

Under the joint supervision of a home and host professor, successful graduate students or postdoctoral fellows will receive a $6,000 research award to conduct a 12- to 24-week research project at an eligible AUF institution. We invite you to apply! 

For faculty members, this award is a unique opportunity to build bridges with universities and develop international projects.

Program objectives

  • Develop or strengthen strategic partnerships overseas.
  • Support Concordia’s strategic directions: 1, “Double our Research” and 7, “Embrace the World.”
  • Build institutional bridges between Concordia University and international universities.
  • Help students to gain international research experience, fostering cultural awareness, and develop their international networks.
  • Support the development of partnerships by faculty members.
  • Enrich Concordia's research activities and drive innovation by bringing different perspectives and ideas.

Key deliverables

Deliverables include:

  • final report that summarizes the project. The research intern is responsible for drafting the final report and getting approval and signatures from the academic supervisors.
  • Mitacs exit survey.

Application process

Here are the details of the Mitacs Globalink Research Award program and application process.

To participate candidates need to meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be registered as a full-time senior undergraduate, graduate student or postdoctoral fellow at Concordia throughout the Globalink Research Award.
  • Postdoctoral fellows may apply if your date of graduation from a Ph.D. program is no more than five years before the start date of the research project and you have postdoctoral status at Concordia. 
  • You cannot undertake a research project at an institution where you have previously completed a degree.
  • You cannot undertake a research project in a country where you hold citizenship.
  • Be the legal age of majority in Canada (18 years of age or older).
  • Meet travel requirements for the country of the host institution, including visa and/or immigration requirements. 

Duration

  • 12-24 weeks. 25% of your research project may be completed at your home institution, upon Mitacs approval.
  • Projects must start no later than 12 months from the date of approval.

Value

  • Six thousand Canadian dollars ($6,000 CAD) for 12 to 24 weeks.
  • Award is paid in the form of a stipend to the research intern.  
  • Host and Home supervisors are not eligible to receive funding under this competition. Funding must be used to support Mitacs Globalink Research Award interns. 

Step #1 Find home and host supervisor

  • Find a supervisor at Concordia and at an eligible AUF member institution (listed above) to supervise your research project. 
  • The best place to start looking for a host supervisor may be with a Concordia professor (whether it is your supervisor or another professor in your department or faculty). Professors have broad international networks and may have colleagues in your country of interest.
  • You can also do your own research by exploring universities in your preferred destination, and identifying professors working in your areas of interest. 
  • Explore Concordia can help you to find Concordia faculty members by research interests and areas of expertise; 

Supervising professors' eligibility

  • Must hold a faculty position at an eligible university. 
  • Must be eligible to supervise graduate students.

Step #2 Complete and submit your application

  • The application needs to be completed and signed by both home and host supervisors, as well as the research intern.
  • Important to note that the application is signed by the Concordia International Office and Office of Research after it has been submitted online and reviewed.  
  • The Student Code of Conduct and Ethics and International Pre-departure forms must be completed by the intern after the award is approved

Important to note:

  • In the budget section of the application all funds need to be allocated to the stipend amount. 
  • The Student Code of Conduct and Ethics and International Pre-departure forms must be completed by the intern after the award is approved. 
  • Ensure the application you download to submit for internal signature at Concordia has been signed off on by all participants. It should read “completed sign off” in section 7 (Sign-off Status).
     

Step 2: Submit your application to Concordia for signature 

Download a copy of your completed online Mitacs application for internal submission to Concordia International.

• Signed applications will be submitted to ConRad on behalf of faculty by the International Office.
• Signed applications by the Office of Research and Concordia International will be submitted to Mitacs on your behalf.
 

For internal submission to Concordia interns must upload the completed Mitacs application and register on the Concordia International Mobility portal. The portal regroups all the application documents for mobility programs. Click on the application link below. 

If your application is successful, after you receive your outcome letter from Mitacs:

  1. Participate in a pre-departure session with Concordia International. Your pre-departure form is signed by Concordia International following the pre-departure session. 
  2. Obtain appropriate travel documents (i.e., passport, visa, work permit)
  3. Obtain appropriate travel/health insurance
  4. Send your Pre-departure and Code of Conduct and Ethics forms to Mitacs 
  5. Complete the payment information form on the Concordia International Mobility Portal.
  6. Arrange for housing
  7. Review and follow the directives provided by applicable institutional, municipal, provincial/territorial, and federal bodies in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  8. Interns will receive their award once they arrive at their host country. You will need to be prepared to make arrangements to travel to your host country.

*It is important to inform Mitacs and Concordia International of any changes affecting your research project, including change of dates, major changes to the project, eligibility of both supervisor and/or intern, etc.
