Writing online exams on campus

Students who have online exams and would like to write them on campus rather than at home may book a spot in a designated quiet room on either the Sir George Williams Campus or Loyola Campus.

Frequently asked questions

Students can book a spot via the Campus Quiet Spaces booking page.

Select the room of your choice, and then select a date. Click the time you wish to book for. The system automatically selects a duration of 4 hours. You can use the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page to adjust the duration of your booking. Please book only as much time as you need in order to make the space available to your fellow students.

Please cancel the booking so that the space becomes available to anyone else who may need it.

To cancel a booking, follow the link in your confirmation email to complete the cancellation.

You cannot modify a booking after it is confirmed. You can, however, cancel and book another slot if one is available.

For IT technical support, please contact the IITS Service Desk by sending an email to help@concordia.ca

Booking a spot in an exam room means there is a seat reserved for you for the duration of your booking. There are no fixed seat numbers. You will be directed to an available seat by a Concordia staff member when you arrive in the room you booked.

You will have an assured spot, but you won’t have an assigned seat. You will be directed to a seat based on the available space in the room. Only students who have booked a seat will be allowed in the room.

The libraries on both campuses have additional spaces where you may sit your exam. While these spaces are not bookable, you can find a quiet space with both internet and electrical outlets. There are large Silent Reading Rooms on all floors of the Webster Library, and for Vanier Library the silent areas are VL-126 and all of the second floor (VL-2).

Students taking proctored online exams may still write their exams in these shared on-campus spaces. You should inform your professor that you will be sitting on campus for your exam so that they are aware that other people may be potentially visible in the recording.

If you have additional questions, please contact your instructor.

  • Be sure to book a space at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Arrive at the room you’ve booked at least five minutes before your exam begins to give yourself time to check in with the staff member on duty, who will verify your booking and show you to a seat.
  • Remember to bring your student ID card or other piece of photo ID to help verify your booking. Bring your own fully charged laptop. Although there may be electrical outlets available, we cannot guarantee access to an outlet.
  • If your exam allows the use of earphones, you will need to bring your own earphones, fully charged, as needed.
  • The rooms will be silent. You are required to not speak or make any noise. A staff member will ensure silence is maintained. If you would like to create an even more quiet environment for yourself, physical ear plugs will be available if you prefer to use them.

Masks are required for the duration of the exam. If your exam is proctored using Zoom or Proctorio, you will need to pull down your mask during the identity verification process.

The best course of action is to ensure you have a fully charged laptop.

Please bring your own charging cables. If an electrical outlet is available near you, you may be able to connect to it. We cannot guarantee access to an electrical outlet from your seat. A limited number of battery banks will be available for unexpected issues related to power. These will be made available on an as-needed basis.

  • If you face issues with your laptop or the internet connection, please let the room monitor know. They will contact IITS support who will come by to try and troubleshoot your issue.
  • If you are writing an exam on COLE and face issues related to the exam or proctoring, please follow the same procedure as for all COLE exams: Use the in-exam chat button to reach COLE Support.
