Concordia’s Next-Generation Cities Institute moved into its specially designed area on the 14th floor of the ER Building, home to the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Smart, Sustainable and Resilient Communities and Cities. “Stimulating spaces help to facilitate positive, more productive collaboration and learning experiences,” says Ivona Bossert, the institute’s design manager and knowledge mobilization advisor.

The Facilities Management team completed one of its most comprehensive renovation projects ever, turning the Henry F. Hall Building sixth floor into a bright, inclusive and flexible space. “Rather than merely adapt the old space, we decided to rethink it right down to the pipes,” says Marie-Claude Lavoie, associate vice-president of Facilities Management.

Concordia’s Applied Science Hub earned a much-coveted LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification. The hub, which opened its doors in 2020, met the rigorous standards of the Canada Green Building Council for providing for the well-being of community members and reducing its environmental impacts.
