Hiring: Coordinator, Learning and Storytelling

Position Scope

Reporting to the Senior Director, Community Engagement and Social Impact, the incumbent collaborates with community and university partners to effectively tell SHIFT’s stories by planning and executing a cohesive strategy that leverages both learning and communications opportunities related to social transformation. The incumbent engages and activates the SHIFT and Concordia communities using a range of events and communication channels to clearly share the Centre’s purpose, activity, and impact. SHIFT’s flat operating structure requires willingness and capacity both to exercise strategic leadership and execute with excellence. A core member of a highly collaborative team, the incumbent is also expected to support other work areas, including funding, partnerships, space and governance.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develops accessible and compelling written and visual content for newsletters, website, articles, reports and social media that clearly conveys SHIFT’s values, activity, learnings and impact
  • Plans and coordinates events that support knowledge exchange, skill-sharing and collective learning around themes related to social transformation
  • Builds and executes a communications strategy and production calendar that effectively grows and deepens engagement of the SHIFT and Concordia communities
  • Collaborates closely with University Communication Services to ensure that all Concordia-facing content produced about SHIFT is coherent and in line with SHIFT values, and leverages UCS resources towards building up understanding of SHIFT’s role within the university
  • Recruits and coordinates membership of an advisory committee composed of community and university stakeholders and engages them on topics of strategic importance related to SHIFT’s work.
  • Acts as liaison to a portfolio of partners that have received SHIFT funding. Support funded teams to troubleshoot, make connections, and engage with the SHIFT ecosystem.
  • Provides technical guidance and strategic advice to SHIFT’s funded projects to help them communicate their impact and outreach to their communities
  • Builds relationships and facilitate partnerships with key stakeholders at Concordia that are well placed to add value to SHIFT’s funded projects
  • Performs other duties in support of the unit.

 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 2-4 years of relevant work experience. Experience working on communications within a university or other large institution an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and managing programs, events and projects. Experience planning and delivering larger scale conferences or symposiums including design, logistics, promotion, and follow-up an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and creating compelling written and visual content for a variety of audiences, using different channels such as events, newsletters, articles, reports and social media.
  • Capacity to engage members of diverse communities and skilled in a variety of facilitation and moderation techniques. Experience designing and hosting engaging virtual events an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to craft creative, persuasive narratives that communicate impact and values
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (Level 5) in order to produce compelling content; Very good oral and written communication skills in French (Level 4), sufficient to proofread, facilitate events, provide feedback and build relationships in both languages. Clear and dynamic public speaker an asset.
  • Knowledge of and strong interest in trends and dynamics in social innovation and social justice fields. 
  • Strong interest in working collaboratively in a horizontal structure that requires all team members to assume shared leadership responsibilities in addition to the coordination and execution of their own program areas 
  • Highly effective listener. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships across differences in power, privilege and worldviews
  • Self-starter who takes ownership of projects and tasks with the ability to work quickly and efficiently with an excellent eye for detail and accuracy. Able to analyze a problem and take initiative.
