About the Artwork
The three sculptures in this university atrium embody the dynamism, movement, and energy characteristic of Gerald Gladstone’s work. The visual tension between the massing of the metal components and the apparent weightlessness of each suspended sphere is a recurring motif in his early practice.
Rarely exhibited since their creation in the 1960s, the Ellen Gallery agreed to integrate these sculptures into an important thoroughfare in Quartier Concordia.
About the Artist
Gerald Gladstone was a Toronto-based artist best known for his public commissions, most notably those realized for Montreal’s Expo 67 at Place Ville Marie in 1972.
