About the Artwork
These four large cast-fiberglass sculptures outside the entrance represent images of past and present. The forms are primal, highly personal and unrestrainedly visceral. They were originally shown as part of the International Sculpture Exhibition in Venice and are the second part of a series of three sculpture groups called Caucasian Totems. The Canada Council Art Bank and the Stratford Art Gallery hold the other groupings. Concordia inherited the work when it acquired the building from the Canadian Jewish Congress in 1999.
About the Artist
Walter Redinger has been sculpting for more than 40 years, He is best known for his large, controversial, organic fiberglass sculptures and fearless drawing. He was chosen to represent Canada at the 1972 Venice Biennale.
