Marwan Bassiouni's images, often presented on a large scale, lie at the intersection of documentary practice, fine art and intercultural mediation. In his photographs, he explores the poetics and aesthetics of documentary photography while focusing on the Western landscape and themes related to identity, spirituality, culture and the politics of representation.
A discussion of urban planning issues in Montreal featuring three panelists (Kenza Diboune, Chris Harding, and Samuel Descoteaux Frechette) discussing the role of their university education (from 1:30pm-3:00pm). This is followed by a keynote address from a Concordia Geography graduate who researches housing and has written the book Home Truths: Fixing Canada's Housing Crisis (3:30pm-4:30pm). The keynote address is followed by a catered reception and display of recent work by Concordia Urban Planning students (4:30pm-6:00pm).
This event will be a discussion with prolific writer, poet and professor, H. Nigel Thomas, facilitated by Kathleen Charles. The event aims to create an intergenerational space of knowledge transmission, with a focus on deepening our understanding of the experiences of H. Nigel Thomas, and his relationship to Blackness, queerness and literature.
In 1982, the West Island Black Community Association (WIBCA) was founded as one of Montreal's first Black Anglophone associations. The film is guided by the oral histories of WIBCA's founding elders, who recount their grassroots efforts to support Black communities in Montreal for over forty years.
