This workshop is part of the CTL's Teaching with Generative AI series.

Emerging technology like ChatGPT can simultaneously intensify uncertainty and offer opportunities for critical thinking skill development when students are seeking new information for assignments. This interactive workshop will begin with a discussion of empirical evidence of how undergraduate students approach assignments that require them to incorporate outside sources—a process that often involves anxiety and frustration. We will then explore implications of generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) for scaffolding learning tasks and breaking down stages of the information seeking process. (Note that this session does not focus on the implications of generative AI for academic integrity issues.)
