Join us for our upcoming SHIFT Lunch & Learn! These are opportunities to learn more about social transformation and all of the amazing work connected through the SHIFT community. Bring your own lunch or come and snack on what we have here.

This month at SHIFT, we’ll learn alongside members of JIA Foundation about their work to celebrate and deepen connections to cultural heritage in the Chinatown community.  Through festivals and storytelling, advocacy and shared meals, JIA Foundation creates conditions for the development of collective, visionary futures anchored in justice, cultural identity and solidarity.

  • Michelle Tatebe-Larocque 余缘 has a strong interest in the intersections of identity, race, social justice and food (in)security, and particularly in how agriculture can be a tool for cultural (re)appropriation. In addition to working with JIA foundation, they are an active member of Kahéhtaien Lumb Garden and Chinatown Youth.
  • Parker Mah 馬世聰 is a fourth-generation Chinese Montrealer of Toisanese descent, based in Tio’tia:ke. Multimedia artist, musician, and DJ, his diverse body of work tackles themes and realities of migration, hybridization and identity. He is also active in different cultural and activist spacesl as a curator, moderator, trainer and community organizer.

Register here or drop by if you are on campus.

Please note - this event is held in person, at the SHIFT space. If, for accessibility reasons, you are not able to join in person but would like to attend the event, please contact stephanie.childs@concordia.ca and we can work together to see if an alternative solution is possible. A week’s notice will give us the best chance of making something work.

Learning Community Showcase On the first Tuesday of the month, come meet members of SHIFT’s Learning Community and learn more about the socially transformative initiatives they are leading.
