FAS Establishes Four Faculty Research Centres

Brian Lewis, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science is pleased to announce that the Faculty Council of Arts and Science recognized the establishment of the following Faculty Research Centres at its January 20, 2012 meeting:

Centre for Clinical Research in Health (CCRH)

Housed within the Department of Psychology, the CCRH is devoted to the study of the psychosocial determinants of physical and mental health with particular attention to research on the causation, prevention, and treatment of physical and mental health problems. CCRH membership consists of five core members, eight full and part-time researchers and more than 40 undergraduate and graduate trainees.

Centre for Microscopy at Concordia (CMAC)

CMAC provides the Concordia research community with a centralized location where seven high performance microscopes along with image analysis and computer support for the microscopes can be found. CMAC promotes interdisciplinary research and state-of-the-art facilities to train undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdoctoral fellows. Current research activities include: metabolic engineering of pharmaceuticals; molecular mechanisms of aging; learning and memory; and autism spectrum disorders to list but a few.

Centre for Sensory Studies (CSS)

The CSS is an interdisciplinary collaboration platform for research in social life and history of the senses, perceptual practice, multisensory aesthetics, and the development of technologies for extending the sensorium in innovative ways. The main goal of the CSS is to foster interdisciplinary study of sensory perception, aesthetics, marketing and communication. The CSS consists of six members from the Faculty of Arts and Science as well as six members from the JMSB, Faculty of Fine Arts and Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science.

Centre for Iranian Studies

The Centre for Iranian Studies seeks to enhance collaborative research and graduate training opportunities in the broad field of Iranian Studies. The Iranian Studies group consists of four core members from the Departments of Religion; Sociology and Anthropology; and Classics, Modern Languages and Linguistics.
