Concordia University Student Parents Centre receives $1,900 donation
In the spirit of giving, Campus Safety and Prevention Services is starting the new year off right, demonstrating its generosity and commitment to the community, with a donation of $1,900 to the Concordia University Student Parent Centre (CUSP).
The funds were personal donations collected throughout the year and at the annual Campus Safety and Prevention Services holiday gathering.
“By donating to CUSP, you’re not just investing in education; you’re investing in the resilience and determination of student parents,” says Darren Dumoulin, director of Campus Safety and Prevention Services.
“You’re helping them overcome obstacles and providing a pathway for both academic success and a brighter future for their families.”
Empowering student parents
CUSP plays a crucial role on campus for student parents, providing needed support such as weekend childcare, which in turn allows students to achieve academic success while also raising a family.
“Juggling the demands of coursework and parenting can be an overwhelming task for student parents, and the support provided by CUSP helps alleviate some of the childcare difficulties they may encounter,” says Sumaiya Gangat, coordinator of CUSP.
“This donation will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the services and resources we provide to our student-parent community.”
A father himself, Dumoulin says that “supporting CUSP isn’t just about giving money; it’s about giving hope, empowerment and the assurance that education is a beacon of possibility for every student parent striving to build a better life for themselves and their children.”
The funds raised will enable CUSP to continue providing essential resources and services to student parents, helping them navigate the complexities of academic life while raising a family.
Whether providing reliable childcare or resources for affordable food, or offering school supplies and tutoring for children, CUSP is fulfilling its mission is to empower student parents to succeed both in their academic pursuits and as parents.
