Mission/mandate/about the organisation

Atelier La Coulée is an open-access sculpture and metalworking facility specializing in the casting of bronze and aluminum as well as welding. We are a not-for-profit cooperative located in the heart of the Batiment 7 project in the neighbourhood of Pointe-St-Charles. Our mission is to encourage and support creativity by providing an accessible and inclusive workshop open to diverse Montreal communities (i.e., artists, students, crafts persons, professionals and persons with general interests). Our workshop is a space dedicated to artistic exploration, experimentation and creation--with a strong commitment to developing a collaborative setting that empowers skill-sharing, and the transmission of technical know-hows.

We follow a mandate that is non-oppressive and non-hierarchical in structure, and aimed at empowering female-identified, LGBTQIA+, and person(s) with disabilities. We believe that we can empower communities by democratizing technical skills. Our goal is to continue creating an accessible and safe metal shop that supports our members by offering affordable rates alongside dynamic educational programming with access to highly specialized equipment and technical support.

Areas of interest that can be explored through the internship

The project is to be determined according to the abilities and interests of the intern and the needs of the workshop.

It could be: community outreach development, communication strategies, administrative and daily operations of a non-profit cultural organisation, development of collective artistic projects and more.
