Camille Bédard
Camille Bédard is a Montreal-based art and architecture historian, cultural worker and artist who has been drawing tirelessly since she was a child. With a BFA in Art History from Concordia University (2011) and an M’Arch. in Architectural History from McGill University (2013), her research focuses on historical movie theaters, more specifically on the typology of atmospheric movie theatres and the spectatorial, social and cinematic experience in these atypical venues.
Camille's multidisciplinary practice bears witness to her insatiable curiosity for the arts, whatever their form. Her background in the visual arts includes internships at the Musée Tomi Ungerer (Strasbourg, FR) and the Museum of Modern Art (New York, USA), as well as experience leading creative workshops at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal and curatorial coordination of public programs at the Canadian Centre for Architecture. It was as artistic and general coordinator at LA SERRE - arts vivants from 2017 to 2021 that Camille discovered contemporary live arts (dance, theater, performance, etc.) and, more specifically, her desire to support artists through their professional development. With this intention to contribute to a stronger artistic ecosystem, she founded and directed Concordia University's Art Volt Collection from 2021 to 2024. A platform for the sale and rental of works by recent graduates of the university's Faculty of Fine Arts, the Collection is a unique initiative in Canada that provides training for artists to learn the basics of the art market while introducing new audiences to contemporary art. Since August 2024, Camille is Associate Curator at the Guido Molinari Foundation.
On the side, Camille is also a freelance writer for Vie des arts magazine and has been on the board of directors of the Festival Filministes since 2019. And the rest of the time - when there's time left - she creates watercolor traveling sketchbooks (Burkina Faso 2015, Iceland 2016, Indonesia 2018).
