Rouzbeh Shadpey
About the Artist
Rouzbeh Shadpey is an adisciplinary artist and musician with a doctorate in medicine and inexhaustible exhaustion. His work explores (de)colonial pathophysiologies of illness and weariness, with a focus on the aesthetics and poetics of neuroimaging, diagnostics, and fatigue. He has performed and exhibited at Phi Centre, la RIPA, Ada x, with upcoming works at Centre Clark, the Mosaic Rooms, and DAÏMON in the first half of 2022. He is part of Montréal, art interculturels' (MAI) Alliance cohort for 2021-2022.
Rouzbeh's musical practice under the name GOLPESAR / گلپسر combines avant-garde electronics, scraped guitar, (softly) spoken word(s), and echoes of Iranian sonics. He has performed at MUTEK Montreal, Akousma, Suoni Per Il Popolo, Festival Phenomena, Code d'Accès, and more.
He currently lives in Tiohtià:ke / Mooniyang / Montreal.

About the Work
His work, *M2A(2M...) or a cosmotechnics or (e)viscerality*, is a lecture performance that traces the individuation, distribution, and collectivization of viscerality and its evisceration through the lens of two pills: the "missile pill" and the *cabsulih*. Examining the link between Pillcam—a camera ingested to survey gut health whose origins lie in technologies of Israeli combat—and the *cabsulih*—a makeshift pill created by Palestinian political prisoners to move their letters, poems, and books across carceral spatial confinements by hiding them in the depths of their bowels—*M2A(2M...)* traces the pathophysiology of a colonizer's hunger in the face of anticolonial resistance. In the pursuit of health in illness, and the fight against the illness that is occupation, the work asks that we turn our viscera into a weapon which operate in solidarity with the fight for Palestinian freedom.
