    These panel discussion took place in the context of the Art Volt Grant Writing program. The events provided attendees with an understanding of current strategic priorities at major granting agencies and addressed questions of language and changes in the funding structures. The goal of these events was to help the audience understand how public money for the arts is distributed, to whom, and for what.

Quebec & Montreal specific grants

  • Conseil des Arts de Montreal
    The Conseil des arts de Montréal’s General Funding Program supports the creation, production, dissemination and presentation of artistic activities. By providing financial support to various arts organizations, this program helps them to complete their projects. It supports artistic excellence and enables various audiences to experience art in all of its forms.
  • CALQ
    The Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) invests in the imagination and celebrates the successes of those who create memorable works, and shape Québec’s cultural identity. With a view to equitable, sustainable artistic development, the CALQ supports creation, experimentation, and production in the arts and literature in all regions of Québec and promotes dissemination in Québec, Canada, and abroad.

    Please note that while the majority of this resource is available in English, information about programs for organizations are only available in French on their website.
  • Jeunes volontaires
    This recourse contains information and programs for employment assistance, catered towards young individuals between the ages for 16 and 29 year olds. The Young Volunteers program could provide guidance for a concrete professional experience. Whether you want to start your own business or become self-employed, this program allows you to explore a business project and validate your entrepreneurial skills, motivation and determination through business start-up type activities.
  • SODEC
    This resource aims to support the development of Quebec cultural enterprises and ensure the protection and enhancement of its heritage buildings. They provide numerous services and functions catered towards those in the film and television production industry, the book and publishing industry, the craft and art market, and the music and variety industry.

Canada-wide grants

  • Canada Council
    The Canada Council for the Arts is Canada’s public arts funder, with a mandate to foster and promote the study and enjoyment of, and the production of works in, the arts.
  • Canada Media Fund
    The Canada Media Fund aims to foster, promote and finance Canadian content, across all audiovisual platforms, and help share it with the world.
  • Factor
    The Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings is a public/private partnership that supports the production of sound recordings by Canadian musicians and helps Canadian music companies make recordings available to a wider public. They provide numerous programs including, but not limited to, artist development, collective initiatives, funding for music companies, songwriting development, sound recordings, sponsorships and more.
  • Artists Inspire
    The ArtistsInspire aims to foster and support art educational initiatives through grants and funding.

  • Art Volt's Grant Writing Program
    Offered annualy in the fall, this program is specifically for recent alumni of Concordia University's Faculty of Fine Arts.
  • ELAN’s Québec Relations project
    Provincial funding assistance for English-speaking artists and organizations in Quebec. ELAN's Québec Relations project provides a searchable Quebec funding platform, free one-on-one funding consultations and grant-writing assistance for Quebec-based grants, as well as capacity-building webinars and workshops.
  • Studio 303's Grant Labs
    Get one-on-one professional feedback on your grant application to the Canada Council, CALQ and CAM in dance, inter- and multidisciplinary arts, or in new artistic practices, as well as for the Vivacité programme.
  • Vivacité Clinic by MAI
    This recuring program is open to artists who wish to submit an application to the CALQ’s Vivacité grant. It is designed specifically for artists who have the first draft of an application ready (including a project description and a project budget). Each participant receives 6 hours of one-on-one support from an experienced grant-writing consultant.
  • L'ABC des bourses du CALQ
    A bilingual video tutorial series produced by the CALQ to help applicants gain a better understnading of CALQ's funding programs, as well as the application process.
