With the guidance of experienced technicians, you'll experiment with programming and electronics, build 3D prototypes, or create printed works and interactive projects with access to professional labs, studios and editing suites.

Facilities for DCART students

Our interdisciplinary teaching labs are accessible to all MDes, Design and Computation Arts students and faculty. These labs feature an array of specialized equipment to support students and faculty in realizing their projects. 



Computation lab

Hosts powerful computer workstations and offers guidance for students working on creative computing and programming-intensive projects.

Documentation lab

Enables a flexible environment, tools and equipment for documenting student projects and creative class work.

Sensor lab

Provides facilities and tools for projects that involve analogue electronics, microcontroller programming and simple textile construction.

Soft surface lab

A dedicated teaching lab with space and equipment for students to develop and explore soft surface pattern design and making, eco dyeing, bioplastics, eco inks and hand or machine sewing.

Visual communications lab

Offers a variety of facilities and workshops for graphic design projects: bookbinding equipment, a guillotine paper cutter, a vinyl cutter, various finishing tools and a library of resource manuals.

Fine Arts facilities



Core technical centres

Located on the 8th floor of the EV building, the core technical centres are available to all Fine Arts students and include: the metal shop, wood shop, fabrication shop, and digital fabrication lab.

Centre for Digital Arts (CDA)

CDA provides access to computer labs, editing suites, and multimedia/audiovisual equipment loans for Fine Arts students.
