Academic regalia
Academic regalia symbolizes the wearer's educational achievements and the scholarly tradition of higher education.
Gowns and hoods
Concordia's academic regalia includes a gown and a hood. Mortarboards (graduation caps) are not a part of Concordia's tradition, however they are available to purchase as a souvenir.
Academic regalia is the distinctive gown worn by graduating students during academic ceremonies, such as during your graduation photos or at convocation. Gowns and hoods vary in style, colour and adornments based on the academic degree and field of study.

Gowns remain open in the front. Clothing worn underneath the gown is visible. The recommendation for the occasion is business casual and semi-formal.
Put on your gown over your clothes as if you are putting on a coat. The gowns remain open in the front. Place your hood over your shoulders so it will drape in the back and reveal the colour of the silk lining. Do not use pins to hold the hood in place.
CORRECT
When bands point upward over the shoulder.
INCORRECT
When bands point down towards elbow.
