Mitacs internships, agreements and applications

Mitacs is a national, not-for-profit organization that supports collaborative research-based innovation.

Mitacs programs offer excellent opportunities for faculty, students, recent graduates and post-doctoral fellows to collaborate with industry, non-profit and government partners to address real world issues and innovation challenges.

Students and postdocs

Mitacs has many programs you can apply to. To find out which program is the best fit for your project and for next steps, please contact Natalie Rachel, advisor of Business Development.

Mitacs agreements

The majority of successful Mitacs Elevate, Accelerate, and BSI projects are governed by the Concordia University Standard Terms and Conditions for MITACS Projects.

However, the Partnerships, intellectual property and security team will negotiate a separate agreement for programs such as NSERC Alliance-Mitacs Accelerate grants, joint applications with other universities or multiple partners.

Do not sign any agreements without first contacting the Partnerships, intellectual property and security team.

Submit your application

Your Concordia supervisor or principal investigator must submit the Mitacs application and required documents through the ConRAD system for review and final approval by the Office of Research (OOR). Once complete, the signed application will be submitted directly to Mitacs by the OOR.

Need help? Contact the Research Development team.

After your application is submitted

Mitacs will review your application and submit it to their scientific committee or to external peer experts for adjudication. The timeline for the process varies depending on the program and project size.

If approved, a technical/scientific approval letter will be sent to the partner, Concordia supervisor/principal investigator and the OOR. An invoice will be sent to the partner by Mitacs.

For more information, contact the Mitacs Grants team.

Successful applications

Mitacs will coordinate with your Concordia supervisor/principal investigator and the external partner to assign/confirm the interns and identify the internship dates. A Letter of Award will be sent to the OOR.

For post-award questions, please contact Vanessa Buzzelli, advisor of Internship and Service Agreements at Concordia.

Managing your Mitacs project

Once the Letter of Award has been received and applicable ethics and agreement requirements have been met, the Office of Research will request a research account in your supervisor’s name from Concordia’s Financial Services

Financial Services can also help with the processing of project expenses.

Changes to the Letter of Award, interns or project dates should be communicated as soon as possible to the Mitacs Grants team with Vanessa Buzzelli in CC.
