On Art Writing: Discussion + Spiffy Moves Launch
9 April 2015, at 4:00
Concordia University, EV-3.719
What different forms of art writing are practised today? How do they differ from traditional academic writing? What is their public? What is their place in the art world? This conversation explores these questions by looking at different approaches to writing within the academic realm, as well as different ways of teaching writing. It aims to inform and enrich the variety of artistic discourses promoted by the publication Spiffy Moves.
Spiffy Moves is a printed collection of art writing and visual art. It is an attempt at something polyphonic – a mixed bag of ideas that form the contours of this moment and this place in art, writing and cultural criticism.
The speakers are MJ Thompson, assistant professor in Art Education, and Laurie Milner, part-time professor in the Master of Fine Arts, both at Concordia University. The conversation will be moderated by Chantale Potié, MA student in art history at Concordia University..
