Milli-Volt Summer Camp Facilitator (CREW RA position)

About the Program

Volt-Age is launching Milli-Volt, a hands-on summer day camp in collaboration with the YMCA, designed to engage kids aged 5 to 12 in fun, age-appropriate science and green technology activities. This unique initiative will be hosted at Concordia University's Sir George Williams campus in downtown Montreal and is part of our commitment to equitable and inclusive science education.

Position Summary

We are seeking enthusiastic and creative Camp Facilitators to co-design and deliver engaging activities that introduce children to basic concepts in green technology and science. Facilitators will work closely with the Volt-Age team to develop the program content and lead two 3-hour sessions per week for three weeks during the summer of 2025.

This is a great opportunity for university students interested in education, science communication, sustainability, or community outreach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend a 2-hour orientation session with the Volt-Age camp organizer in early May 2025 
  • Collaborate with the Volt-Age team to plan and develop science-based camp activities (4–6 hours in mid-May 2025) 
  • Refine the activities in a 2-hour prep session in (mid-May 2025) 
  • Lead 6 hours of programming per week (2 days x 3 hours) with kids on the following dates: 
    • June 23–27, 2025 (Ages 9–10) 
    • July 14–18, 2025 (Ages 5–6) 
    • July 28–August 1, 2025 (Ages 11–12)

Qualifications

  • Concordia University graduate student (natural science and engineering) in a field related to electrification, engagement with a Volt-Age research project is an asset
  • Ability to adapt language and communication style to suit different age groups
  • Strong organizational and teamwork skills
  • Experience with summer camps, tutoring, or youth programs is an asset
