Message from the President
Despite another challenging year as a backdrop, there was no denying our community’s achievements and commitment to bringing positive change to the world.
Concordia students led the way in 2021. We celebrated a new Rhodes Scholar, our first-ever Schwarzman Scholar, a bumper year of John Molson School case competition podiums, a first-place finish in the Base 11 Space Challenge and the Quebec championship in men’s rugby.
A team of entrepreneurs mentored by District 3 finished second in the global Watson Prize competition AI for Good. One of our graduates won an Emmy and our faculty also earned honours with three inductions into the Royal Society of Canada, a Medal of the National Assembly, the King-Sun Fu Prize, the Prix Louis-Comtois and the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts Medal.
Our research is making a big impact in high-demand areas, such as smart cities, cybersecurity, health, climate change and green technologies. Our innovation agenda is leading the way in Canada by creating a novel lab-to-market scientific venture program for postdoctoral entrepreneurs, and by being named one of the world’s best maker schools.
Our commitment to a better world earned us recognition as one of the top 100 international universities for our support of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. And to help build a more inclusive future, we launched the Indigenous Futures Research Centre and signed on to the Scarborough Charter on Anti-Black Racism, while the John Molson School earned a parity certification from Women in Governance.
All of this against the background of a global health crisis. I know you join me in taking great pride in Concordia and I hope you share our ambition to accomplish even more in the future.
