Program Requirements

Honours in English Literature (60 credits)

9	credits: • ENGL 260 Introduction to Literary Studies (3.00) ‌ • ENGL 261 Literatures in English before 1660 (3.00) ‌ • ENGL 262 Literatures in English after 1660 (3.00) ‌
	Note: The above nine credits are to be taken within the first 24 credits.
18	credits chosen from the following four course groups, with at least three credits taken from each group. A course can only be counted in one group, even if it is listed in more than one. Early and Medieval Literature‌ Renaissance Literature‌ 18th-Century Literature‌ 19th-Century Literature‌
12	credits chosen from the following three course groups, with at least three credits taken from each group. A course can only be counted in one group, even if it is listed in more than one. Modern and Contemporary Literature‌ American Literature‌ Canadian Literature‌
3	credits chosen from one of the following course groups: Indigenous Literature‌ Postcolonial Literature‌
3	credits chosen from the following course group: Literary Theory or History of Criticism‌
3	credits: • ENGL 470 Honours Seminar (3.00) ‌
12	credits chosen from any of the following English course groups: 200-level English Literature Electives‌ Periods before 1800 (British) Literature‌ 19th-Century and 20th-Century (British and European) Literature‌ Canadian Literature‌ American Literature‌ Indigenous Literature‌ Literary Theory or History of Criticism‌ Modern and Contemporary Literature‌ Postcolonial Literature‌ Topics and Independent Study Courses‌
	Note: Honours students must take at least nine credits at the 400 level, including ENGL 470‌. However, a student, in consultation with the honours‑majors advisor may substitute another 400‑level course for ENGL 470‌.

Notes

Students interested in entering an honours program should consult their departmental honours advisor or undergraduate program director. Normally, students may apply for this change following the completion of at least 24 Concordia University credits. These credits should include program-related courses.
Students must meet the University regulations concerning the honours degree.
Students are responsible for satisfying their particular degree requirements.
